Soyoo Art Studio was founded in 1987 and
has been in its present location since 1990.
My interest in art began at an early age
and continued through high school.
I studied Western style painting and
received a BFA from Hong-Ik U. in Seoul, Korea.
I continued my studies at Hong-Ik U. and
received my M.F.A. in Fiber Arts.
Since 1974 I ran my own studio Namoo
in which I taught and created my own work.
In 1987 I came to the United States
looking for a new challenge.
In addition to teaching and creating my own art
I've been invited back to Korea to teach during the summer.
In 1997, I received first place in
'The Scholastic Arts & Writing Award'
in recognition of being an outstanding educator.
This national award was presented to me
in Constitution Hall in Washington DC.
My work has been in numerous
group and solo exhibitions
in the United States, Korea and Russia.
These shows have received favorable reviews
by the New York Times, Newark Star Ledger
and many local newspapers.
My work is represented in public and
private collections worldwide and
in many standard textbooks on weaving.
In 1995 I illustrated
'Look What We've Brought You From Korea,'
published by Simon & Schuster and
represented them at the American Library Association's
conference in Chicago
as the illustrator of their best illustrated children's book.
